Feasibility Study for the Wind River Native American Tribal CollegeFORT WASHAKEE, WY -
There are approximately 3,000 enrolled Shoshone and 5,000 Arapaho tribal
members on the Wind River Indian Reservation in West Central Wyoming.
The reservation consists of large swathes of farm, range, forest, and
prairie lands and includes many fresh-water lakes and rivers. Much of
the land is accessible only by foot or by air.
Worldwide began the first planning stages to produce a Wind River community college that would offer an associate degree and include relevant, nontraditional courses such as Tribal Government, Treaty Rights, Native American-U.S. Goverment Relations, and Native American Rights as well as cultural arts and crafts, history, medicines, religions and philosophies. The college would use educational technologies, distant learning, computer networks and small group tutoring. At the termination of the project, Worldwide received a written report and an on-site video. Worldwide funds covered the travel and expenses of the principal investigator (a Shoshone) and an assistant who operated the video recorder and provided editorial assistance.
